Blinky

Hi, I'm Blinky The Fun-Loving Caterpillar. Blink-Blink!

Blinky is a fun-loving caterpillar who makes learning exciting for young children. Blinky uses music and motion to teach basic skills of colors, counting, parts of the body, as well as health and nutrition.

Blinky’s creator Bryant Person knows the connection between the rhythm of music and learning first hand. The composer, producer, drummer learned the rudiments of elementary school at the hands—or tunes—of a gifted music teacher. Teaching through songs became a learning ploy for his children, and he has passed on the skill to his grandchildren who learned to spell their names through song.

While producing hip hop step aerobics, Person was faced with another challenge. What is today called “soft skills” were not being learned effectively. He realized that these traits of showing up on time, living up to a commitment, exhibiting what is called, “social graces” started in early childhood, as did healthy eating to prevent a lifetime of obesity. Person began focusing on how his music could instill well rounded early childhood development. He was concerned not only about the academic learning, but he wanted pre-school children to effectively know and practice healthy eating, the science of their body parts, the basic soft skills needed to be successful in life as well the rudiments of language proficiency and basic math skills.

Person began focusing on using his musical skills as a way to make learning fun for pre-schoolers. Children learn more in the first five years of life, and Person wanted a way to connect with children at the most impressionable age. He took the name of a high school friend, Blinky, and morphed it into a fun-loving caterpillar. Just as the caterpillar metamorphosizes into a beautiful butterfly, Person knew that through songs young children could become successful adults through a lifetime of a love of learning. Blinky and his friends Toby and Jody were soon born with the advice of preschool learning centers and career educators. Curriculum provided by the state for preschool objectives provided the basis for Person’s songs and comic books. Today, the World of Blinky and Friends has been used in library pre-school programming, child care centers, child care ministries, Head Start classrooms and home-based child care. The mascots are available for on-site appearances for a fun learning experience, and its club with its signature comic books give each child a rich and rewarding experience.
